Back Bouncing spawn
for King Salmon, in my mind is the only way to catch these fish.
This technique was first mastered in Alaska and was
introduced on West Michigan rivers a few years ago. This
method can be either fished back bouncing or drifting with
bobbers. My clients and myself prefer the back bouncing
method because of hands on abilities and the feeling of a
King hitting your bait. A piece of skein spawn, about the size of
a golf ball, is snelled onto a treble hook and presented into the water
where Kings are holding. Multiple hookups during a days trip is
normal and limits are taken usually during peak fishing periods.
Crankbaits such has
Daves Kaboom, "Winning Streak Lures" are used
during August and the first
few days of September. Kings strike these baits with
avengence. Baits are set out a few feet off the stern
of the boat and presented very slowly to the fish just off the
bottom of the river.
